The whole Christmas season in Coonoor is amazing. There might not be snow. But December in Coonoor is still quite splendid.
In fact, I have never seen Coonoor so merry.
Shops are decorated and full of Christmas music.
During the Christmas season, there is a choir that goes around singing Christmas carols. We also have Santa at certain places, giving the children actual presents … It might not have been in our letter but we still love the presents.
We get some very yummy food like kalkals. Kalkals are delicious! It is a small fried pastry powdered with sugar. I know. YUM!! There are also scrumptious plum cakes and pies. The locals love to bake … including me.
It is very cold in December. The temperature is between 10 degrees celsius to 20 degrees celsius. Nights get even colder. There is thick, thick fog. Sometimes, the fog can be mistaken for snow. Well, only if you don’t look at the ground.

If it is not raining it is nice to have a picnic at ‘The Hidden Valley’ or Sims Park.
If you are staying in a bungalow, hotel or a homestay you would like to sit by the fire and take a nap :) You can roast marshmallows in the fire (only if it is the fire in the fireplace and only if the managers permit it) and have some fun.
Coonoor is full of holiday cheer and it is waiting for you. Please come to Coonoor, but not during COVID ;)
Because Christmas is my favourite time of the year I wrote a Christmas story just for kids. Listen and enjoy!
